Xbox Live is great fun, and the system has consistently matched me with players at my skill level.

Many weapon sounds are weaker, less controller vibration to accompany appropriate on screen actions, and replacement of proprietary Bungie phsycis with Havok engine detract from feel of game, at least a little bit. The great feel of the weapons, movement, and physics in Halo 1 (on Xbox) is a really big part of why I’m so fond of the game. game doesn’t have tactile satisfaction of Halo 1. bothersome graphical problems: limited field of view is obnoxious, pop in is noticable and obnoxious, and the ommision of detailed textures (textures look more detailed as you get closer to them) found in Halo 1 really sucks. Sometimes I felt like too much of Halo 2’s story was being thrown at me as I played via voiceover (especially a problem with the occasionally muted VO), but overall I like the story, and I don’t mind the way the story ends (I just don’t like the final bits of gameplay). Halo 2’s story takes a little while to get your head around, but it’s quite good once you think about it and get used to it. Halo 1’s story is focused, interesting, and engaging.

Initially, I felt that Halo 2’s story is way too sprawling and unfocused for its own good. Well, ok, killing Prophet Regret was decent fun, but it still just does not fit the focus the game has on infantry combat. Hello, Bungie, anybody home!? You don’t put boss fights in Halo. What do we get in Halo 2? A lame boss fight.

IMO, the best ending level in an action game ever. What do we get in Halo 1? A superb, climactic level that culminates in a last minute escape from the Pillar of Autumn and the destruction of Halo. I didn’t mind the ending as far as the story goes, but in terms of gameplay, it was a real let down, espeically compared to the spectacular final level in Halo 1. Longer than reviewers would have you believe (a good, meaty 15 hours) Immediatly started replaying on the difficulty just under Legendary.

I finished it yesterday after 3 intense days of playing at Normal difficulty.
